IWCK-International Women Contributing to the Community

How amazing would it be if it was possible to help  people by simply eating your favorite food from different countries, participating in raffles, and buying foreign products that are not usually available in Kyiv? Well, with the Annual Holiday Bazaar this past weekend, that is exactly what peope did!

This event, for those who are familiar with it, is an event we had been waiting for, and for those who aren't, it's definitely an event you want to put on your calendar for next year!

On Saturday, December 1st, 2012, the Annual Holiday Bazaar was held at Kyiv Expo Plaza from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. This was a great opportunity for all people to come together in order to help raise money for charity while still having fun.

You might ask yourself, "Well, what exactly is the Annual Holiday Bazaar, and what does it consist of?"

The Annual Holiday Bazaar is the IWCK's (International Women's Club of Kyiv) "largest fund-raising event". IWCK is based on the cooperation of various embassies, sponsors, and other volunteers and it aims to fund the IWCK's many charity projects. This event has been held every year since 1992. Now, in its 20th year, people  remain enthusiastic about helping out this great cause.

"It's my third year participating in this event, and even though I must say it does take a bit of time and work in order to prepare the food and to gather other items to sell, at the end of the day it feels great to be able to help raise money for an excellent cause!", said a member of IWCK and a volunteer for the Mexican Embassy Stand.

At the gathering, people from a variety of embassies had stands representing their country where ticket holders could buy goods such as the represented country's national clothing or national food. Other organizations also offered an array of products or services. For example, the Kyiv International School participated by cooperating in the Kid's Corner where holiday inspired entertainment and craft activities were offered. KIS students volunteered their time to help out at the kid's corner under the supervision of RJ Jackson.

IWCK is the International Woman's Club of Kiev. It is a non profit organization comprised of International women with the intention of helping the needy. All the money that is raised through their events is donated to help meet the needs of places like orphanages, centers for the elderly, and women in crisis. Once the money has been raised, a very special and careful process takes place in order to ensure that the money is actually used for legitimate purposes. There are currently 350 members, representing about 40 countries.

If you're interested in helping out this great organization or being a part of this great cause, then don't hesitate to contact an IWCK representative, we have several within our school community!
